Shelling Area 5: Transkei Coast

East London to Port Edward

The Transkei Coast area is host to an increasing number of Indo-Pacific (sub-tropical and tropical) shell species. Some endemic species, most notably sub-species of Cypraeovula capensis, often wash up along this coastal region. Coffee Bay, Gonubie and areas around the Fish River mouth are particularly famous for lovely specimens regularly washing up on beaches or appearing in rock pools, especially after a storm.
