Shelling Area 1: West Coast

Orange River Mouth to Yzerfontein

The West Coast area is generally not a great place for shells – unless you are into bivalves. The Benguela Current flowing up the West Coast carries icy-cold water from the southern Polar regions, creating unfavourable conditions for many shell species to flourish.
