Shelling Area 6: KZN South Coast
Port Edward to Durban Harbour
The KZN coastal regions are undoubtedly the richest shelling areas in South Africa. Many of the more common Indo-Pacific species are found along the Kwa-Zulu Natal (KZN) coast, some being considered rare in South African waters. The deep water reefs in this area are rich in biodiversity – including shells – but the coasts (beaches, rock pools and shallows) also deliver some beautiful shells – if you know where to look. Park Rynie is famous for delivering lovely specimens on a fairly regular basis.
