The Passing of a Stalwart

On 31 October 2025 we bid farewell to one of the stalwarts of the Society, Jelle Lammers. Jelle will be remembered with fondness by all for his humble demeanor, his love for collecting of local specimens - especially around the T/O Strand area - and the splendid shell exhibits he crafted for the Society's Annual General Meeting Shell Exhibits. He was known for his attention to detail and the professional approach he took to showcase the subject matter on display.

It was not uncommon for Jelle to reap the rewards and walk away with many trophies and awards, and most of the attendees and fellow exhibit creators would take the time to "take notes" on how to prepare a proper display!

Our President prepared a Letter of Condolences on behalf of the Society, which was passed on to the Lammers Family.

The following note was received for reprint from the Lammers Family:

Dear members of the Conchological Society,

Thank you for your letter of condolences with Lammie's passing. In his retirement the shells were his big passion. He used to start planning in January for the July exhibition. Keep on being the inspiration for each other.

Regards,

Chrissie Lammers and family

Belgian Shell Show 2025

The 2025 Belgian Shell Show was held on 16 and 17 May in the Sporthal Kattenbroek in Edegem. It was hosted, as always, by the Koninklijke Belgische Vereniging voor Conchyliologie (bvc). It is currently the largest shell show worldwide by linear measurement.

Roy Aiken and Alan Seccombe participated as exhibitors and dealers at the Show, presenting to the visitors a wide variety of rarities from our waters.

Below is a photographic record of some of the amazing tables full of treasures presented at the Show:
